5 years ago , people were saying "shale gas exploration is not transferable beyond the Americas" .

So far they have been proved right .

In the UK , it's 6 years since a well has been frac'd in the United Kingdom , even though it has tremendous shale gas potential and is importing more and more methane and now ethane too for the chemical industry . Companies literally have to seek permission from a local council before flow testing a well .

In Uraguay the greentards kicked up a fuss that Petrel had "unconvential potential" specified in an investor presentation .

In Australia , vote seeking politicians have implemented moratoriums and bans on not just shale but conventional drilling too . Rather than promote gas E&P , they are reinforcing negative stereotypes and essentially supporting the assertion that frac'ing is bad .

It seems the whole of society is being blackmailed by these special interest groups . It's not enough that Ford and Holden have gone . The nimby's won't be satisfied till they've shut down all manufacturing and put all the workers out of jobs .
