Cobalt prices increase by more than $1 on continued tightness; end-users try to resist rises
Cobalt prices rose again on Wednesday February 22, hitting fresh seven-year highs, as spot supply tightness continued and traders scrambled to find material, pushing prices up by more than $1 on the day.
Metal Bulletin-assessed low-grade cobalt prices were up by 7.4% from Friday’s quotation, settling at $21.30-22.50 per lb from $19.90-20.90 per lb previously. High-grade prices moved even more sharply, up 10% from the previous quote and increasing by almost $2.50 on the high end to $22.50-23.85 per lb, from $20.75-21.40 per lb. Indications early in the week had been of offers above $24 on high-grade, and while nothing was concluded at this level on Wednesday, several consumers reported that they had been quoted prices above this level and even as high as $25 when seeking material. "I went out to buy some material and was quoted a ridiculous number," a European consumer said....
BAR up 1 cent CNJ half a cent, thinking of swapping some BAR for CNJ....
