broadband nonsense, page-70

Bendigo - it might seem unnecessary now, that it is only used for donloading movies etc, but in a few years time applications will make full use of higher speeds. The same way it is now almost impossible to do a lot of things on the net through a dial-up connection. Australia will be cut off from using these applications without it. Things like delivery of broadcast video, tele-conferencing, VOIP, online collaboration will become basic forms of communication, and there are undoubtably applications that are yet to be dreamt up.

Sure some of us can live without it in our homes but you need the basic infrastructure there so that the capacity is there for those that need it. It is an investment for the longer term, like roads and railways - these things open up opportunities just by building them.
