I think it always easier to take advantage of the share price movements (dare I say "manipulate" the SP) when liquidity is low and investors are nervous. Like now, when the Dow is very high and Trump is about to deliver a speech on economic policy. That has the professional traders pulling out their bag of tricks as opportunities open up because of nervous retail investors. As you say, nothing has changed in relation to the stock itself or the company's prospects.
