I would have thought simple definitions around Noise Cancellation would be;
Passive - Device which physically blocks noise as say a barrier.
Active - Device which uses a process to nullify or emit blocking sound waves.
IQbuds IMO are active. I'm flying at the moment, and a simple flick of the app changes what I hear.
