People should be cautious about using strip ratio as any kind of definitive indicator of a project's viability. Its of little more use than a thumb-suck guide.
I've been involved in projects from feasibility to completion that have had strip ratios of 137 to 1. We still made over $100m profit in 15 months. We didn't use strip ratio as a guide at all, not even as a thumb suck. Grade (and metallurgy) is king.
