In the study by Adlard et al, 2014 it was demonstrated that PBT2 increased many different proteins which are functionally intertwined at the synapse and are critically involved in cognitive function and synaptic plasticity. This kind of an effect could not be possible without PBT2 helping mitochondria.

Now when AD is a mitochondria disease and we know a bit more also about the function of mitochondria in regeneration of synapses etc we start to have gradually a more clear picture how PBT2 improves cognition.
