If the patient dies and his death is unrelated to the Ventrassist device, then I don't expect a sharp reaction: The patients are already half dead by the time they are admitted for the implant.

Surgery and recovery takes a lot from a patient and they are also drugged up to the eyeballs before admittance, so the body has to weaned off these drugs as well.
