The cops don't need to lose them. The crims are quite able to steal them from homes, or as just happened in Perth - break into a gun shop. They stole 130 handguns just recently from one shop. Now where will those weapons wind up? The most likely suspects would be criminal gangs, mostly third world, some asian (remember the police chief in the early 90's who told us we would never have asian crime gangs here - where is he now - I can fill up my bladder for a visit), a couple with distinct African and/or Muslim history, bikie gangs, after that - considering the expertise involved and the obvious work they went thru to learn the security - if it wasn't given to them...So now we have 130 MORE handguns FOR - let me think...car-nappings, home invasions, inter-gang warfare (which is a plus), and general robberies. Our cops have Glocks. That is reassuring. How about one Uzi per patrol car. IF you can't provide that much firepower - how about a good semi-auto, or auto, 12 gauge? The world has changed, and our politicians are always at least twenty years behind the criminals, terrorist, corporates, and ordinary.
