To those getting worked up about a Partnership, don't count your chickens before they hatch. I believe in the Webinar WP stated it was a "collaboration" - which in my mind means a splitting of costs of continuing trials at best. That said, he's also admitted openly (same webinar I believe) that they can't afford phase 3 trials themselves.
Far as I can see, there needs to be a deal with cash money involved to continue. If the phase 3 results are good, and I am hedging that we'll see an increased reduction in viral shedding at 12 months, then this could well happen.
The vaccine simply needs a business case. Efficacy is one, need is the other. Need is there, no one wants herpes. Especially Americans, they are hysterical about it.
