It is "assumed" to be a organic molecule because its constituents are that of life - just because you fart methane, does that mean that all methane comes from farts?
The overall point is that the original science that gave us this idea doesnt stand up to current knowledge of the shear mass of hydrocarbons on this little planet, to make it work you change the other variables - not by doing an experiment, but by saying well because we know that all these hydrocarbons are organic in origin then the amount of bimass available must be incorrect therefore we change our calculations to reflect the 'fact'.
That an amount of methane is biological is certain, the question is is it possible for the huge amount continually released for the last billion years or so is all biological.
I'm not expecting to persuade anybody of this, merely point out that science has become so accepting of this theory that they have built others upon it- in fact they make up new theories constantly to spak fill the holes, eg methane hydrate, first causing mass extinctions and ice ages then simply being the result of these processes, Darwins theory of evolution - New finch species in the Galapagos are more prone to support a Lamarck theory(or homologation of the 2), How about green house theory? - we have produced all these chemicals therfore thats why the temp is going up - not the temp is in normal range of change and could be natural. Incidentally the Greenhouse theory came to popularity after we discovered the hot temperatures on Venus and summised that it must be caused by the trapping of gasses. Only one Velikovsky had predicted the temperatures on venus, except his reason was that the planet was a young capture of the solar system.
I dont believe they are all wrong i just know for sure that scientists who challenge these accepted 'facts' are doomed to ridicule.
pb last example - Einsteins theory of relativity- we accept that travel beyond the speed of light is impossible because it would require infinite sources of energy and the theory was predictive of the power of the atom so its proven right, and no-one comes back in time to talk to us so time travel is not possible QED, but any quantum (there's that word Gominer) Physicist knows that space time is blured and time travel possible at the sub atomic level - an accepted fact - dont know how they get around this one but apparently there is a theory that explains this difference (beyond my grasp anyway)
