Last Update: Monday, April 23, 2007. 12:02pm (AEST) Turnbull says global carbon trading scheme need 'obvious' Federal Environment Minister Malcolm Turnbull says a global emissions trading scheme is inevitable.
Mr Turnbull was today touting an Australian company that is offering to provide households with free energy-efficient lightbulbs in return for the right to trade the carbon credits.
The Federal Government's task force on a carbon emissions trading scheme is due to report back at the end of next month.
Mr Turnbull will not say what role Australia intends to play but believes the need for such a scheme is obvious.
"If you're going to have an effective response to global warming, you need to have mechanisms that are sufficiently flexible to enable people to respond in the most economically efficient way," he said.
