Queensland Premier Peter Beattie has shifted his stance on the uranium debate several times in recent months, and yesterday signalled he would continue to ban new mines if the resolution passed by the conference allowed him that discretion. Mr Rudd has said that the states would continue to decide for themselves whether to allow new mines.
