The trip gas reading must be from when they changed the bit. This is much more important than connection gas as though both will be largely suppressed by the massive mud weight at that depth (around 1000 atmospheres - and the gas is still getting in!) and means there is almost certainly lots of gas below.
This is HUGE and they may not even have hit the major payzone in Leadville yet with McCracken and Lynch yet to go. There is no longer any real risk in this.
