That view of market manipulation is quite limited (company announcements and forum postings). The form being referred to is manipulation of the market via targetted buying and/or selling.

There is no doubt this is possible for people with big bucks to play with.

That said, I think a lot of the manipulation calls are being overblown. Think about it: if you had $1m of shares that you decided to sell, surely selling it in 100 * $10k parcels would typically have less of an impact than a single large sell order of $1m....

How exactly do you expect someone to exit a large position *without* affecting the share price ?
