This a very pertinent topic. The economic imbalances that have manifested themselves within the Australian economy due to the financialisation of real-estate are at record and unsustainable levels.
We are in the midst of a bubble (unprecedented in size for this country in real terms) Australia wide, and like all bubbles, almost all it's participants will have their heads stuck in the sand/ be in denial regarding the gravity of the situation (as exemplified by some of the participants of this discussion thread)....until it's too late.
