I think the reason for excitement @aatisket is that surely the IDMC have looked at the data for the first 270 patients and decided after using the appropriate projections, that there is a tendency for superiority or effectiveness for the treatment group as compared to control, and if the data continue to come in for the remaining 330 subjects as it has for the first 270, then there will be a statistically significant result of effectiveness for the treatment group. Might be wrong on the process and methods of analysis, but this is my assumption on the reason for the IDMC's recommendation to continue the trial.
