400 shares at brokerage of A$20 (quite expensive) would be a cost of A$0.05 per share. The first years dividend would cover that 6 times over, so if the price stabilises here, then the cost of the transaction is recovered within 2 months, just on dividend. Add franking credits and capital appreciation, and I think it is an excellent entry point and trade. Number of shares is dependent on many factors, strategy, available funds, risk tolerance etc etc.

The only time it doesn't make sense to do trades based on size is if you, for example, buy 1 share @ A$4.00 and pay A$15 (minimum) brokerage.

FYI, my broker charges me minimum brokerage of A$8 per trade, so the cost for per would be A$0.02.
