Coming from the opposite direction I often see the centre lines crossed. That new law is stupid really, because the clearance you give depends on traffic conditions.

Need to make the roads wider with a dedicated cycle lane on both sides.

Its lawfull, here in Queensland at least, to cross an unbroken white line when passing a cyclist in order to allow for the one meter buffer.
