Battle of Monte Cassino - involving the destruction of the famous hilltop Benedictine Abbey in central Italy and 55,000 allied casualties. The Canadians won great respect in a number of offensive actions.

Anzac Day (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) marks the anniversary of the first major military action fought by these Country's troops in the First World War at Gallipoli, then part of the Ottoman Empire.
