Using that example the way it usually goes is you have a resource of 5mt @ 2.5%. You have a reserve of 4mt @2.7% and you end up mining 3.5mt @ 2.8%. I've just pulled those numbers from thin air but your reserves are always less than your resource and are typically higher grade. The same can be said for the amount you mine but may not higher grade if there are issues with dilution etc.
