I study the course of sales every minute of everyday for about half a dozen green stocks, sometimes trading the same stock 3 times a day so it's very important for me. When shorting they simply load up each stop, such as 495, 50, 50.5 etc until there's enough real sellers there and then they set up camp at 48, 49, 49.5 so it appears as a mass of selling pressure. And the SP generally gives way. They don't usually want to actually sell the shares rather use them to float between prices, so when you see it moving up and down you can play chicken with them. You need to buy about 200,000 shares to give them a fright though. If there's only say 16433 shares to get it down another cent they'll sell 16433, so the next bloke comes along and sells at a lower price and the game continue's. Very effective.
