I would also like to have seen someone like Ron Paul as president but he didn't seem quite tough enough to battle through to the end game. Voters seem to look for toughness, whether we like it or not. Ron would have known he was up against a very powerful deep state and wouldn't want to make too many enemies. For example, calls to audit the Fed would be dangerous but his opposition just laugh it off and nothing has come of it.
Re the middle east and the Saudis, I'm prepared to give Trump a bit more time to see where all this leads. He could be playing both sides for a while until he sees a clear opportunity to do those promised deals. Events in Yemen and Syria should give us a good indication. Those billions of $ in weaponry would be spread over a few years so I assume the US has the option to reneg on the deal at some point.
