This what the retail investor is conditioned to believe, so not holding for the phenomenal market reratings that are possible should they stumble upon a massively undervalued situation.

Don't be greedy, take your profits, is not relevant in many situations for astute investors.

A decision to sell should not be based upon the current profits an investor has in a stock, but upon the merits or otherwise of maintaining a position in the stock.
