Not only that, he has proven to be a good multiplier of capital, retaining a chunk of that capital means he can continuing earning at a high rate, and make more and more donations over his life.
Warren Buffett has pledged $70 Billion to charity, if he gave up and donated everything when he was 40, he would have only donated $25 Million, the good allocators of capital are best left with capital to manage.
