This is a bit low brow compared to a lot of the other info posted here, but I thought it was interesting, and worthwhile sharing.   It is a popular article (in Skeptics magazine) on the use of seaweed and seaweed extract as a "plant conditioner", written by Prof. Tim Entwisle who is CEO of the Royal Botanic Gardens Victoria.  His research interests are in the classification of freshwater algae.   The article is interesting for the brief history and increasingly mainstream acceptance of seaweed extract being of benefit to plant growth even though we don't know the precise mode of action.
Yes, our fossil jungle juice is not seaweed etc etc, but there is a huge market and acceptance, and I eagerly await results of the hydroponics trials and PFS.
