So, if the company/manager whatever it is, is guaranteeing the difference, have you satisfied yourself that they have the financial resources to do this? If there a statutory fund being independently audited that is ringfenced to the investment obligations to cover? Because as someone who has reviewed a range of guaranteed investment products on a professional basis, I can tell you I am exceedingly doubtful. If a group like Challenger is writing guaranteed annuities on rates of ~3% pa, the only way they can produce those sorts of return is with a hell of a lot of risk. High risk and guarantees are not natural bedfellows.
