    John Constantine,

The entire argument for the geothermal industry is based upon increasing efficiency and evolving to become competitve with coal. This is achieved by targeting the exponential increases in effeciency that higher temperatures bring. Extra development risk is a worthy price to pay.

With this in mind, GDY have chosen the hottest known target in Australia. At 250*C and 750 bar, granite, which does not act like hot plastic until the mantle, presents a difficult target. GDY have the rig designed to deal with targets far more inaccesable than that.

If you want evidence of the solidity of the granite, just look at the artificial stimulation of the resevoir from the first Habanero wells. This would not be achievable in semi-solid rock bodies, as the increase in volume would quickly be crushed together again.

GRK will be targeting similar pressure, albeit at lower temperatures. Drilling through hot, overpressurised granites is not a risk unique to GDY, however it is a risk only they are positioned to deal with.

Anyway,I think we should address any more debate about GDY in the GDY forum.

    Cheers
