Just for clarity, the proposed EMH process is a Zinnwaldite roast (calcine) with sodium sulphate and lime and lots a lots a lots a gas. This is not commercial or used anywhere practically (yet). Impurity removal is similar- but different.
Standard process would be Spodumene calcine followed by sulfating roast with sulphuric acid. Then as you say water leach, impurity removal and precipitation.
