South Africa and Africa in general is an important potential market for Fluence going forward. The drought conditions in South Africa and the difficulty of water acquisition for both private sector, public sector and residential users due to mismanagement of the current water infrastructure (pipes and dams), together with the need for quick solutions to meet the growing water demand means the potential of more work to come.
At the moment, the two biggest provinces in South Africa, Western Cape and Eastern Cape are sitting with less than 10% of water availability in their dams due to prolonged drought and mismanagement of water infrastructure. The existing government has squandered the opportunity of building desalination plants and will be looking for quick fixes for desalination.
These issues of mismanagement and the need for quick fixes are worse in other Southern African and Northern African countries. When I look at Africa, all I see is opportunity.
