Results of reported fully occupied sessions (3 sessions per day x 5 days per week) on the three listed ASX providers of early childhood education and care.
As the other two providers are mainly Melbourne based operations, the comparisons relate to centres based in Victoria, in either the same suburbs or in close proximity to each other, based on the same number of centres. The results are as follows:
On reported full sessions, G8 9.80%, Other 9.41% and Other 4.00%.
As neither of the other two providers mentioned have large, or any listings in NSW, it would benefit to compare G8 with a similar sized operator. This operator is the largest provider of early education in Australia and is a not for profit organisation.
The selection was a group of 28 centres across NSW, based mainly in the suburbs of Sydney with a few regional operations also.
On reported full sessions, G8 14.28%, not for profit operator 33.33%.
On reported full days within the group, G8 8.57% not for profit provider 18.57%.
The "feeder" for any centre is 0-2 room, full capacity rooms in this age group firm up future occupancy. Currently, a high percentage of 0-2 rooms are reporting vacancies. Within the group above, G8 reported 0.35% of full sessions in this age group and the not for profit provider reported 1.07%.
There were direct links between competitive pricing, quality ratings and high occupancy.
Evidence that some centres are concerned about occupancy can be viewed on www.careforkids.com.au website that reports centres offering, (under the banner of "special invite") a $30 reduction in daily rate on 5 day enrolment, $1000 rebate if you enrol before 31 July or enrolling two children, pay only one deposit.
