    Don't spend a cracker on the markets until you can read a chart or are fundamentally brilliant and patient to wait it out

    I don't think either of those things are specifically prerequisites for a budding trader. Certainly wouldn't consider myself to be a chartist or "fundamentally brilliant" but seem to do alright.

    You just need to know the rules of the game with specs. How to trade stories. Who pulls the strings. If you can stay solvent while learning your lessons (read: getting reamed, repeatedly) you'll do well.

    So much more info and community these days, compared to when I started out and I think the learning curve should be a bit quicker now. I just cringe thinking how green I was in the early days and basically flying solo.

    I do agree patience is a useful skill.
