MURCHISON FURTHER EXPANDS WEST
AFRICAN URANIUM PORTFOLIO
6TH EXPLORATION LICENCE GRANTED IN MAURITANIA
Murchison United NL (ASX: MUR, AIM: MUU) is pleased to announce that it has further
expanded its uranium exploration portfolio in West Africa after being granted an
additional “Group 4” Uranium Exploration permit by the Republic of Mauritania
covering an area of 1,433 square kilometres.
The Company now holds six uranium exploration permits in Mauritania covering a total
area of 8,200km2 with two remaining applications currently being processed.
The permit areas are in the north of the country near the town of Bir Moghrein and in
the Bir En Nar region. These were originally identified by the Company's Technical
Director, Mr Bosse Gustafsson, from a study commissioned by the World Bank and
further refined from aeromagnetic data highlighting the areas’ prospectivity for uranium
occurrences.
Field visits carried out by Murchison have since confirmed the prospectivity of the licence
areas for uranium, with previously reported sample results of up to 9,500ppm U3O8.
Earlier this year, a geolectric survey was conducted on a number of the key prospect
areas identified. The purpose of this survey is to assist as an exploration tool in
estimating the depth to the bedrock basement. This will in turn assist planning for a
drilling programme.
Following completion of its first drilling programme in Guinea in May, Murchison is
currently negotiating access to a drilling rig in order to commence drilling at its licences
in Mauritania, with the initial focus expected to be on the Bir En Nar region.
Depending upon drill rig availability, the Company aims to commence drilling within 2
months.
