Just noticed the hydrogen response - can't really see hydrogen doing it. Doesn't matter if production costs diminish or are from renewables. Hydrogen is extremely inefficient as a fuel and the only plus is recharge times (and even that is not so big an issue any more). Tony Seba does a good analysis of hydrogen here:
The big problem for hydrogen is infrastructure - it's a massive drawback and it's why Honda and Toyota have recently jumped to develop electrics. Hydrogen may play a part in other areas such as long haul transport or the like but for the general car and light vehicle markets EVs are a much easier option. Besides do you really want to have to go to a hydrogen station and start paying again instead of just running your car from the solar on your roof.
