I did'nt consider the option of surface coal gasification.
Is this the same as the old "Town Gas " that we used to have in Sydney, Newcastle and probably other places?
I recall the old days when coal was burned to maunufacture gas for heating and cooking and was plumbed to houses throught the suburbs.
I do believe the reason they stopped producing was it was to toxic (approx 75% CO)and too many fatalities occurred not too mention expensive to store.
I presume there are modern technices that avoid these consequences but is there a stigma still attached?
