I remember watching an Elon youtube clip about a year back where he said the advantage of being such a huge player in the battery field was that all the new battery developers always come knocking on his door rather than the other way around. He said Tesla is probably aware of MOST of the battery tech claims and co's and scores them 1-5; 1 being 'rubbish' and 5 being 'buy them out now'. It was a while ago but I think he implied that from like 50 proposals, at best there were like 3 that scored a 3 which was like a 'let's keep an eye on them' kind of score. Basically insinuating that there was nothing out there that was outstanding enough as far as he was concerned. Would be good if someone has seen the clip and can re-post.

Whilst I'm really 'hopeful' that our prospects in the battery field pan out, Elon's comments sum up my general battery sentiment. I've seen and read "researcher X says they have tech that will slay the battery industry" kind of news articles for a decade, where are these techs now? My thoughts are either they weren't that great to begin with (probably), or it takes decades of research and oodles of money to bring to market (both of which ADO does not have). Either way, I never placed too much faith in our battery claims and their potential and/or marketability. I'm in this company for all the other MnG applications.
