I think the 21 June announcement said RC drilling HAD COMMENCED at Zola.
A few things don't add up as you said. It's difficult to say if the buying was due to renewed interest in Li or insider info about Zola.
I rang the company to request an announcement on concerns info might have leaked but nothing's happened. That tells me the buying may have been due to the former.
If the SP shot up a bit more it would probably have triggered a please explain from ASX - forcing CXO to give an update.
