1) Reduce the apparent risk of whether the projects will continue to develop.

As stated by other posters over time dividends are for companies which can find no other way to show value to shareholders. Ideally, a company would continue to grow on the back of investing in itself infinitely and in the case of GXY to potentially continue to acquire profit producing projects forever into the future.

Simplifying the math from a standing start you own $10ok of a company starting at MC $1B (0.0001 of the company)
If $400M is invested by the company and creates $1.0B of value every 5 years without other factors or exponential growth the average company profit would be $120M per year and your share value increase is $12,000 per year which you could not match with dividend yield unless the dividend was equal to (or greater than) the long term investment return.
