I've just had a drink(s) aswell. Was only thinking the other day what is money, or what it represents( I seem to do this every week). I quite often ask people "what is money", and they say "its what you buy things with!" . Then I say , no, it is a representation of work done; with those currency notes you receive a representation of work done for others, allowing you to aquire the work of others, with some of this money received spent on the necessities of life, being food and water. In our society, this money is generally spent at the supermarket for food, and water authorities for water, with some of the proceeds going to farmers. I know the financial experts would think otherwise, but the whole financial sytem is leveraged on these two things, food and water. The experts arguing otherwise, as hard commodities and long term assets like housing are in total valued alot more than the collective value of our food and water sources. This makes sense to the point with the necessities being valued at a price which is accessible to everyone. For first world countries, water and food are fortunately minimally priced. In 3rd world countries, the value of these necessities are proportionately higher.
Irrespective of which society you reside, the necessitation of water places value on its source, whether it be a free flowing river, filtration from its primary use, or desalination for human consumption.
The big question is , are the number of rivers increasing in proportion to the increase in populations, or do we need to acquire additional water from elsewhere, and/or recycle what we have already used.
In addition to this, as 3rd world countries strive for first world lifestyles, water consumption per capita increases many times, ie toilet flushing, a shower each day and washing of clothing etc.
To comment on your post Dungiven, whether we are at war or peace, we will always fighting for , and put a value on the necessities of life, food and water,
Now that I have sobered up a little, its time for another drink
