Scenario A
BB buys 1000 shares at $1. Total Value is $1,000
BB sells 200 shares at $0.90. Making a lost of $20
BB buys 200 shares at $0.90.
BB sells 200 shares at $0.80. Making a lost of $20 from the shares that were bought at $0.90
BB buys back 200 shares at $0.80
Total number of shares BB holds still 1000. BB paid $1000, and lost $40, total out of pocket is $1040.
But here is where the fun begins.
Someone (not the BB) decided to sells at $0.80 for 500 shares and BB buys the shares for $400 bucks.
Now BB has 1500 shares and he paid $1440.

Scenario B
BB buys 1000 shares at $1. Total Value is $1,000
BB buy 500 shares $1.10. Total Value is $550.
Now BB has 1500 shares and he paid $1550.

I’m taking a $0.1 increment as my base of calculations and assuming no transaction and brokerage fees.
If BB wants to accumulate he will choose Scenario A. He will keep doing it until there no more (someone) who is willing to sell at a lower price. That’s where he has no choice but pays more to push up the price.
