Mr Gordon has made a similar mistake in his comments that South Korea is persecuting JWs because they are jailed because they refuse to serve in the army. There is no religion persecution. They are jailed because they are breaking the law of the land.

Pear, there are in fact 2 higher laws than the 'law of the land' whenever that land binds themselves to international alliances. The UN charter should be binding to the member nations of the UN, however most nations operate independently. Then there is God's law that they mistakenly feel they are not answerable to.

That Christians were persecuted is an indisputable fact of history. While Nero sat on the throne, a great fire swept through Rome in July 64 C.E., destroying about a quarter of the city. The historian Tacitus says that to take suspicion off himself, Nero blamed the fire on the Christians, who were then “torn by dogs and perished” and “doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired. Nero offered his gardens for the spectacle. (The Annals, XV, XLIV)
During this persecution, Paul, who had preached from Jerusalem to Rome and perhaps even to Spain, was imprisoned for a second time. He was likely killed by Nero about 66 C.E.

This what the bible says about obedience to authorities in Romans 13:1-7 International Standard Version (ISV). Highlights are mine.
Obey Your Government

13 Every person must be subject to the governing authorities, for no authority exists except by God’s permission.^[a] The existing authorities have been established by God, ²so that whoever resists the authorities opposes what God has established, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves. ³For the authorities are not a terror to good conduct, but to bad. Would you like to live without being afraid of the authorities? Then do what is right, and you will receive their approval. ⁴For they are God’s servants, working for your good.
But if you do what is wrong, you should be afraid, for it is not without reason that they bear the sword. Indeed, they are God’s servants to administer punishment^[b] to anyone who , it is necessary for you to be acquiescent to the authorities,^[c] not only for the sake of God’s^[d] punishmdoes wrong.
⁵Therefore, it is necessary for you to be acquiescent to the authorities,^[c] not only for the sake of God’s^[d] punishment,^[e] but also for the sake of your own conscience. ⁶This is also why you pay taxes. For rulers^[f] are God’s servants faithfully devoting themselves to their work.^[g] ⁷Pay everyone whatever you owe them—taxes to whom taxes are due, tolls to whom tolls are due, fear^[h] to whom fear^[i] is due, honor to whom honor is due.

It is clear that God's law states that people must acquiescent to the authorities. I certainly don't like this as a blanket directive but make no claim to following God's law to the letter as you claim that you attempt to do.
