Larger Pit means more ore tonnes available and potentially larger equipment with greater economy of scale to extract the greater amount of tonnes of ore, also greather economy of scale stripping tonnes of waste. Seems like a reasonable plan to decrease BLK's mining cost per ton of ore to me....
Costs aren't all incurred within the mill, you have to get the ore tonnages mined and up to the ROM pad first.
