    Railway Gazette July 2007 has a headline article on hybrid trains. There is an article on what the Japanese Railways are up to with Lithium Ion batteries.
    A second article is on the British trial of hybrid stock where the battery alone is used to start the train and get it to 30 km/h. The batteries are in a second passenger carrying coach. This has 48 1 kWh modules each 20 kg ie 1 tonne of lithium battery per unit. Most of the UK fleet will be replaced in the next 10 years.
