The laterite nickel that Anaconda was mining was a dry laterite which is far more difficult to refine than sulphides that companies like Syrah mine. The SI laterite nickel is a wet laterite which is apparently far easier and cheaper to process and I believe Incorrect has a developed process that makes refining even more cost effective.

Anaconda like Fortesque in its earlier years was plagued with high and expensive debt raised in the US junk bond market to finance its activities. Think it was more about excessive leverage than an uncommercial mine that brought Anaconda down if memory serves me correctly.
