here are the last 2 paragraphs of vayama's post.....
The base price for stainless steel in Europe fell in June to $1,685 a tonne from around $1,800 in April as demand for stainless steel has weakened, Widmer said.
But the surcharge rose to $4,275 in June from $3,968 in May. Analysts say the dip in demand for nickel is likely to be only a temporary blip.
........as you can see, the surcharge has risen from may to june by $307/tonne but the stainless steel price has dropped by only $115/tonne.
so though the nickel price has dropped by 40%, the cost of stainless steel has risen by $192/tonne in june.
as mentioned earlier, the higher cost raw materials are expected to be absorbed by sep/oct which will cause the surcharge to reduce and demand to return.
cheers
