a2 Milk Company 2016-17 proft up 198 per cent on 2015-16

THE a2 Milk Company has this morning posted a net profit after tax of $83.3 million — up 198 per cent on last year.
Strong growth in sales and market share for a2 Platinum infant formula in Australia and China has helped boost revenue to $505.5 million, up 56 per cent.
Sales of a2 Platinum rose by about 78 per cent, attributed to increasing consumer awareness in both Australia and China.

Managing director Geoffrey Babidge said the business was in a “robust” position.
Mr Babidge said expansion into the south east of the US had been successful with good support from the Whole Foods grocery chain.
He said growth in nutritional products had expanded and a2 would also expand its offering over the next 12 months, including the launch of an infant formula product for children aged three years and over last this month.

Mr Babidge said the company planned to grow into emerging markets, particularly in South East Asia, with a trial in Singapore underway.

The Australian and New Zealand arm of the business continued to perform very strongly, with total segment revenue across all product categories up 48 per cent to $404.4 million, and earnings by 83 per cent to $142.8 million.
Total sales and earnings in China continued to grow very strongly, with revenue increasing from $35.1 million to $81.7 million, and earnings from $8.4 million to $30 million.
