Q...Keep in mind that current suppliers will continue to provide product, as well as react to new market entrants, as per any existing sales agreements that can be up to 3 years in duration. Once a sales agreement has ceased / expired and / or new supply is qualified, will create a significant bottleneck in supply of critical raw materials including graphite and lithium.
Until there is a significant uptick in sales of EV's, the bottleneck will be slow to happen...there were 92 million cars sold in the world in 2016 and only 654,000 EV's globally. The largest growth, if it were to happen and would move the needle on global HEV sales, would be HEV's continued transitioning from NiMH batteries to Li-Ion...this would create a demand that would rival EV's as a whole and would attract more buyers that may not be able to afford an EV now, but can afford an HEV while still wanting to make a difference in the fight against climate change.
