1. Both the Minoans and Myceneans had written scripts prior to 1400BC (but of course very little survives). Most of the official theory has been established by looking at artifacts.
2. the Invasion theory is nowhere near as popular as it used to be since DNA studies have shown that ancient populations in much of Europe are quite close genetically to the people who live there now (the Invasion theory says that ancient Europe was colonised by successive waves of invaders, each of which had some improved military invention and pretty much wiped the locals out or moved them on).
3. Never heard the pagans called gentiles before - it's usually reserved for the non-Jewish Christians. Explains in part why the Christians continued to be so vicious in their later colonisations. Very weird that a religion based on peace and love should be in practice the most savage and murderous one ever invented.
