The fact is it is still coal. The environmental bend is that you can remove the energy from the coal with out having to dig it out of the ground, transport it and then burn it, thus reducing the GHG from those activities and also the amount of energy you need to put in to get the energy out. Also, the ash is left underground. Australia has lots of coal and people will still want to exploit it as long as there is a buck to be made. If they use a pure oxygen source then they can reduce the by-product gases.
