Cheers robbo24 having visited the Waihi site they have a massive open-cast mine with huge walled retention lakes nearby for tailings and water. I doubt their underground mines on the other side of town flood so heavily as they are not right alongside a river. Anyway they could just pump those out to the retention/tailing lakes.
The problem for NTL is not the pumps, or power to run them, it is where to discharge the water in the Conservation Area.
Clearly not an issue if they only mine Level 12 and above.
It would only be a problem if NTL had inferred there were minable reserves in the lower levels and not mentioned the water issues.
